Making Books with Pockets: June NOTE: This book used to be called JuneTheme Pockets

For more information about the Making Books with Pockets series, and for great tips on using these books, please click here.

**Please note that the Theme Pockets line of books has been re-titled Making Books with Pockets. The covers have changed, but the contents of the books are the same.**

Each Making Books with Pockets title covers three complete themes. Several topics are covered for each theme. The themes covered in this title are:

1. Amazon Rainforest: Create one pocket for each layer of the rainforest - the emergent layer, the canopy layer, the understory layer, and the floor, as wil as 2 additional pockets: one of map and facts, and one on animals of the rainforest. Your child will do activities relating to different plants and animals living in each layer. When the entire study is completed, the student will be able to remove one piece from each pocket to assemble a giant floor puzzle of the layers of the rainforst. This is a very interesting, comprehensive study.

2. Artists: I love this one!! Students complete a pocket each for Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, Georgia O'Keefe, Pablo Picasso, and Diego Rivers. A final pocket deals with the student's own individual style of art. In each pocket, the student will learn abot the aritist and his or her style of art, then complete an art project representative of that artist's style. A very approachable intorduction to some great artists!
3. Farmers Feed Us: These pockets deal with all of the ways that farmers provide us - and the world - with food. In today's society, most of our food is many steps removed from its source. This is an easy way to help younger children grasp that bread does NOT come from Walmart!! Pockets include activities dealing with fruits, vegetables, cereals and grains, milk and dairy, and meat. You could easily tie this in with a study on healthy eating or the food pyramid. (Note: Making Books with Pockets: November contains a food pyramid theme. See Related Products below to view this book.)

This book is packed full of reproducibles like writing patterns, templates and instructions for art and craft projects, clip art, shaped book forms, mini books, literature lists, etc. It is recommended for grades 1-3 but is easily adaptable for younger or older children, especially when the material is being used to enhance a more comprehensive study of the given topic.
