Ten P's In A Pod

I (Kate) have heard sooooo many wonderful things about this book and have had it on my "to read" pile for quite a while. A friend recently told me that her family was reading it outloud and that she felt that it was the sort of book that our family would enjoy. I managed to persuade her family to do the review for me (thus freeing me up for more reading time!!). 6 of the 8 wonderful Grubb children and their precious mother Barbara all contributed to the review below:

Ten P's In a Pod
By Arnold Pent

What a fun story! As my family read this book aloud we laughed our way from cover to cover. At one point we laughed so long and loud that Dad who was at work on the computer came to see what was so funny and stayed to listen a while! In our house we love to share books together and this is will be an all time favorite for us. Even when mom would stop for the night we would beg for more, at least to hear the next funny chapter name.

This is the story of a family in the 1940's and 50's who was known as the worlds most unusual family. The evangelistic family of ten traveled all from Florida to Canada every year together, sharing the gospel with thousands of families, churches and young people. Their goal was simple, to show people what the word of God can do to change lives. Along the way Dad discipled his children, and Mom taught school.

This book is based on the journals of Arnold Pent from ages 17 to 19. And is a refreshing, humorous account of life in his big happy family. How touching to hear the tone of respect he has for his father as you turn each page and get to know this family personally!

One of my favorite parts was watching Mr. Pent (Dad) communicate his vision to his children over the miles in every kind of circumstance imaginable. He challenged many popular cultural beliefs by basing his life on the Bible and expected his children to do the same. The effect was astounding. His children were secure in their faith in Jesus and in their call in life, and learned to share the good news with others at a very young age. Dad developed in them a love and respect for the Word of God that will challenge you in your walk with God and inspire you to hide the Word of God in your heart as well! As a result His children turned out to be responsible, creative, fun loving, individuals whose purpose in life was to glorify God.

What an impact this family made on the world around them because they loved God and each other! This family lived what they taught. I cannot recommend this book too highly!
Be sure to share this story with those you love. You will laugh and be inspired to new heights and depths in your faith in God.

Mom and a few of my siblings share why they like Ten P's In a Pod!

"Ten P's in a Pod is a wonderful testimony to the word of God. This book is so amazing, you will want to reread it before you finish it! When we read it aloud as a family, we were greatly encouraged and convicted at the same time. This is a precious family. Their story is funny and challenging. What a joy to see the lives of this family. We have been inspired to transform and renew our lives! I know you will be too. Moms don't miss this read aloud opportunity, because I know it will make a difference in your lives. "

"The story of the Pent family was so encouraging and provided my family with many laughs. I loved reading about the unity in the Pent family and seeing their devotion and faithfulness to God and His Word. I was convicted and challenged to make spending time with God and in His Word a bigger priority in my life. The story also rekindled my desire to memorize more scripture. That is SO important! "Ten P's In A Pod" is truly an inspiring story full of emotion and humor that we can all relate to."

Matt Grubb (16)

"This is one of my favorite books! It is funny and challenges me to live a better life. I wish I could tell you how great it is but words cannot explain it. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did."

Annie Grubb (12)

"It amazed me how much this family read their Bibles and prayed. It is fascinating how they trusted God. It was neat how a boy in the story who was younger than me memorized the whole book of Jonah! Wow!"

Andrew Grubb (10)

"My favorite part is how the family trusted God when they had only one dollar. This is a good book! It made my family laugh a lot! "
