The Princess and the Kiss (for girls) and The Squire and the Scroll (for boys) stand out as true jewels in our home library. They manage to present important principles about emotional and physical purity in a gentle, inspiring way. Purity is held up as a beautiful virtue to be treasured and honored. It is soooo much better to inspire our children to greatness than it is to try to push and prod them toward it, and these two books do as fine a job of inspiring as I have ever seen! The corresponding Life Lessons books (see below) are magnificent and not to be missed if you want your children to embrace the principles of purity.

The Squire and the Scroll tells the story of a kingdom that was in peril and a young squire who saved it through purity, nobility, courage, and wisdom. Raised by godly parents who taught him the truths of the Bible (the scroll), the squire succeeded where every knight failed - because he lived by the words of the scroll.

This is much more than a book about quests and kingdoms. It is incredibly rich with teaching about every kind of manly virtue and purity. It is in picture book format and very young little boys will love it, (what little boy can resist tales of knights, castles, and heroic quests?), but because of the incredible illustrations and inspiring language, it will appeal to aspiring knights of any age. If you want to raise a young man who is noble and pure, then you and your son will love this book. Please don't miss the Life Lessons book below! (One word of "warning" is in order - I am utterly incapable of reading this book outloud without crying. My sons generally look at me in utterly male confusion.
