We are working on a large links section that will be categorized by subjects. We have a few links that we love so much that we couldn't wait until our project is done - we wanted to list them right away!
Encore Ink: This site is not to be missed!! Encore Ink sells refill ink kits for printers. These are not generic refills, but are custom packed for individual models and brands of printers. The kits are well put together, the instructions are crystal clear, and the prices simply cannot be beaten. We have used their refills for years and couldn't be more happy. I think that buying these refill kits is one of the easiest ways to save a lot of money on notebooking and many other homeschool projects. Our children can print in color all they like without our worrying about the cost, and we even use the refills in our business printers. I have also heard some wonderful things about their student planners, by the way, so check those out too! The Calderwoods are a homeschooling family with 8 children, and this is their family business. This is exactly the sort of company that we love to support.
Trivium Pursuit: This site is run by the Bluedorns, authors of Teaching the Trivium and many of our other favorite resources. (See our Charlotte Mason and Classical Resources page for our reviews of many of their products.) The Trivium Pursuit site is packed with wonderful articles as well as excerpts from many of their books. We love and highly recommend the Bluedorn's material!!!
Classical Astronomy: This is a truly incredible site with information about any astronomy topic available. They also have a store with lots of neat astronomy-related goodies. Be sure to sign up for their email updates to receive advance notification of special astronomical events.
Vision Forum: Wonderful, conservative, family friendly site. Our children love to browse their catalog for unique, old-fashioned fun kid stuff, and Jeff enjoys ordering audio books by Douglas Philips so that he can listen to them on his way to work.
No Greater Joy Ministries: This is *the* place to turn for help in the child training department! Be sure to sign up for their free magazine (snail mail). It is packed with Biblical, loving, practical ideas and is the first thing I dive for when it arrives in the mail. :-)
Notebooking.org: Make yourself a cup of tea or coffee before you open this treasure trove! Free information, printables, and much more . . . a truly amazing site!
Starfall: My younger children beg to play at this site almost daily. This is the home of the beloved "Snowman Game" and is one of the best, most truly education websites for children. It is full of reading (phonics) games that my dc find irresistible, including many animated "books." The children can read the books online. If they encounter a word they do not know, they can click on it and the word will be sounded out for them. They can also click on the pictures in the book to change them - doing this will also change the story. They will send out a package of phonics material free of charge to anyone who requests one. We received dozens of mini books, similar to Bob Books, a reading workbook with activities for each book, and a reading journal. We received several sets of each and my dc have really enjoyed them. Visitors to our house often ask if we sell them! There have been a few pages in the free materials that contain monsters, but we just rip them out. Also, as with any website, please supervise your children while they are on the site. Be aware that there may be holiday-themed games, such as for Halloween, that may not be appropriate for your children. **Update: Starfall is now charging a small fee for their printed materials, but it is very reasonable and I don't think you could find anything comparable for that price.
Greek 'n' Stuff: This is the home of some of our favorite things! We are using, and loving, the "Hey, Andrew, Teach Me Some Greek!" as well as their "Alone with God" Bible studies. We do the Greek together as a family, and Hannah has been going through the study of Esther in her quiet time. Greek does not have to be intimidating or expensive to teach - the materials from Greek 'n' Stuff are very reasonably priced and fun to use!!
Preschoolers and Peace: What do you do with the "little ones?" Kendra has done a wonderful job of addressing that question. Here you will find practical, 'do-able" ideas for keeping your tiny ones on track and out of trouble while you are homeschooling the older ones. Don't miss this terrific site!!!!
Bright Minds: If you are looking for ways to improve your children's critical thinking skills, then this is the site for you! This site is run by a fellow homeschooling mom and is packed with terrific brain-building products. We highly recommend several of these books and use them ourselves. They are also recommended by the Bluedorns in Teaching the Trivium. Cindy really knows her stuff and will be happy to help suggest specific books for your children. You can also ask her about booking an online "party."
Be sure to check back soon for more wonderful links. If you have a suggestion for a link, or if one of these links is not functioning, email Kate at ourquiverfull@earthlink.net. |
